L’importanza del significato che diamo agli eventi – Cosa realmente riusciamo a controllare?
Nella vita, quasi tutti cerchiamo di controllare gli eventi che succedono intorno a noi. Ma mentre possiamo influenzare molti eventi e forse controllarne alcuni, sappi che la sola cosa su cui hai il totale controllo sei te stesso e la risposta emozionale che dai ad ogni cosa che ti accade.
Avere il controllo del significato che diamo alle cose è il tipo di controllo più importante che abbiamo. Dobbiamo semplicemente trovare un significato degli eventi che ci dia la forza, a prescindere da tutto.
Nello specifico sugli eventi che ci accadono possiamo avere tre tipi di controllo: diretto, indiretto, nullo.
Abbiamo un controllo diretto sulle nostre azioni, sui nostri pensieri. Siamo noi a decidere che vestito indossare la mattina, come reagire di fronte al maleducato che ci ruba il parcheggio o cosa pensare sull’ultima manovra economica del governo.
Abbiamo invece un controllo indiretto su tutto ciò che riguarda il rapporto con gli altri. Non abbiamo pieno potere di spingere una persona a fare qualcosa, ma attraverso il nostro comportamento possiamo “indirettamente” provocare la reazione che desideriamo. Possiamo chiedere gentilmente al nostro commensale di passarci il sale, ma lui è libero di passarcelo o meno. Non abbiamo un completo controllo sugli altri, ma non siamo nemmeno privi di controllo. È questione di comunicazione efficace, insomma.
Infine ci sono eventi su cui non abbiamo nessun controllo. Le condizioni del tempo, per esempio. Molti potenziali incidenti che possono accaderci sono al di fuori del nostro controllo. Non possiamo fare nulla, tranne che accettarli nel momento in cui ci accadono.
Sia che un problema si possa controllare direttamente, indirettamente o no, noi siamo in condizione, in ogni caso, di compiere il primo passo per giungere alla soluzione. Il cambiamento delle nostre regole, dei nostri metodi di influenza e del nostro modo di vedere i problemi.
Per vivere appieno è bene quindi conoscere fino a che punto puoi esercitare il controllo della tua vita.
